At the dealership, the general repair, and the corner station shop. All across the T.C. you will see the ASE certificates. Displaying the associated mechanical prowess of the resident shop lead and employees. Stating the proficiency of automotive systems, in no uncertain terms, rated by a nationally accredited institution. In the custom business, its not so obvious who has sufficient training in the areas you care about most.
Let us be direct for a moment. This set of truths is not good for a new under informed customer. Much less, the seasoned enthusiast. Just looking for a solution for the lack of time that comes with the seasoning. It's actually easy to get involved in a nightmare situation. We have picked up the slack in the past, left over by this type of thing. As I was apprenticing my way up, to get to the point of owning this outfit. It never occurred to me, that it was optional to have a successful project. And it would be ok to charge more at mid project because it was not working out, time wise, or physically for that matter. These things just never crossed my mind. But, it does cross the mind of some. This has always been a sore spot for me, and other people in the industry who share the same concerns.
This topic became more apparent, while reading SCC, how easy it can and will happen. Even for the cautious professional B.S. detector. In the Feb 2008 Vol 20 No. 02 issue, Sport Compact Car had an editorial similar to this one. Titled "Getting Burned. A story of musical engines & musical shops." This topical area of interest covers the story of a 350Z project car, a credible and informed publication, and a host of crappy happenings'. Needless to say, someone got super screwed. Though the magazine can bounce back. (And they did. The car is at a bad ass race shop now.) You may not be able to shoulder the load. It can sour you on the car, and can lead to a sale. Because you trusted a business would provide a service for your investment. And now what? The vehicle is hacked, the budget is spent, and so are you. Most things - non recoverable. This can't happen anymore! Take a stand for yourself.
We have a record of quality and accountability. You will not receive a partially finished project or installation. There will be no excuses. And no increase, of any kind, without a solid account of where the increase was applied. And absolutely no ambiguous invoicing. Some times it takes longer then expected. There are setbacks at times. That's the nature of the beast. But, that is our problem to take care of, not yours$$$. I will not allow under qualified technicians to have a chance to drop the ball. Every part of the project is important to the big picture. Our techs will not "learn" on your vehicle. All procedures are performed by an associate with years of experience with your chassis. There are few popular models we are not familiar with and have performed most swaps multiple times. We invite you to see us as one more option in the T.C. For in depth mechanical revising, and reconstruction of your ageing sports car, new school muscle, or hard core street rod. We are not saying we're the biggest, the badest, or the best. We just have a different focus and way of doing things. Give us a call and see what we have to say about your project. You may come away with a few new ideas of your own. After you have a solid experience, the ride quality is soooooo much nicer. In the mean time, we will stay in the line, and keep running laps. Until we are flagged in, DQ'ed, and kicked out for horseplay.
Thanks to ALL (every last one) of our clients for their continued support. We can't do this without your passion for the road.
